A secret of anticancerogenic mushroom action ...

anticancerogenic mushroomScientists from the British university of Nottingham believe, that studying of the mechanism of influence of the medical substance found in wood mushrooms, will help to make medicines for a cancer more effective and applicable to a wide range of versions of disease.

Natural antibiotic Cordycepin which is widely used in the Chinese medicine, originally took from a rare species of the mushrooms parasitizing on larvas of some insects.

Microscopical mushrooms of a Cordyceps sort caused for a long time interest of scientists. For the first time results of Cordycepin research have been published in 1950.

Then it was found out, that despite promising properties, Cordycepin is quickly dissolved in an organism.
This disadvantage can be eliminated, having bridged Cordycepin with one preparation. However, the additional component can cause by-effects, that in turn limits medicine application.

As a result, scientists have paid attention to other substances which properties help to struggle with a cancer, and the Cordycepin action mechanism and have not been in detail studied.

Effect of influence

Scientists have found out, that Cordycepin influences cells two ways.
In small doses it suppresses process of uncontrollable growth and cell fission, and in big - does not allow to cells to grow together, that in turn too suppresses tumour growth.
Both results are reached, most likely, in the same way - Cordycepin interferes with process of development of fiber by cells.

One of researchers, doctor Kornelija de Moore considers, that "opening will help to allocate a number of cancer diseases which give in to treatment by Cordycepin".
As she said, having studied a susceptibility of different kinds of cancer diseases to Cordycepin and to its combinations, scientists can pave the way for working out of new medicines against a cancer.
"The scientific knowledge received as a result of this research, explains the mechanism of action of medical substance that can be of great importance for struggle against one of the most serious illnesses", - has confirmed Professor Dzhanet Alain from the British Research council on biotechnology and biology which sponsors the project.
Results of research will be published in American scientific edition Journal of Biological Chemistry.
